Ramadhan with the In Laws

I had an almost-disaster this morning. My MIL, FIL and SIL are visiting. They arrived last night. This is the first time my FIL came to our house after we got married. I was desperate to make a good impression. I had a colleague printed 46 pages worth of recipes for me! So last night I set my alarm for 4 am. By the time I opened my eyes, it was 4.30. I started to panic. I jumped up an almost knocked my husband off the bed. Relax, relax, there's still time. So I got the wok out and began to tumis some bawang and chilli. While it was sizzling I put the kettle up. My husband then got up and helped me melerai2kan nasik for the fried rice I was going to cook ( to all husbands and future husbands reading this, remember that little gestures like this will make your wife very, very happy! tq sayang muahs! hehe ). Out the blue, I realised that the sizzling sound is gone. Wait a minute, what is happening? Why is there no fire on the stove?

WE RAN OUT OF GAS!!

Now I started to really, REALLY panic. My husband was too, thinking where the hell am I going to get gas at 4.40 in the morning. I began to conjure horrifying images of cooking fried rice using the microwave. If there were just the two of us, it wouldn't have been so bad. We could just have hot milo for sahur or ice cream from the fridge. But today we've got 3 other mouths to feed and it is Ramadhan!

Suddenly a brilliant idea came to mind. One of the guests at our wedding gave us a halogen-something electric stove! We've never used it before and didn't know if it'll work, or whether it's really a stove or some other clever cooking utensil . So my husband got it out of the stack of wedding presents in our spare room. Couple of minutes later, Voila! it works!! It has a flat surface to place the pot/wok and variable temperature/heat. By 5.05 am, my fried rice is ready. Alhamdulillah...

This present didn't have the name of the giver on it. To the wonderful person who gave us this life-saving gift, we want you to know how grateful we are. Thank you ever so much!
